Heading South

We left Rome this morning heading South

Divinely beautiful country side with hill top towns and rivers.  Just like in the movies!

Here we are in Bari after a four hour train journey from Rome.  Beautiful scenery and really comfy train ride
Here is Gillie with her feet in the Adriatic

I took lots of movies from the train but you will have to wait till we get home before we can sit you through 15 hours of train videos.
Bari is a beautiful medievel city with winding narrow arched streets.  It is where the ferrys come in from Greece and has a heavy Eastern Med influence.
Most importantly Santa Claus a.k.a St Nicholas is entombed here in the most wonderful church I have ever seen.

Here is one picture of the streets surrounding this church

We went for a walk this afternoon and visited Fredricks Castle that guards the entrance way to Bari.  They have been restoring it and it is impressive

After all the training and walking we sat in a sun warmed square this evening watching families promonading and children playing and drank a frosty beer each.
La Dolce Vita all over again.  Tomorrow the bikes!
